Excellent pair of bluetooth headphones for enjoying your music
I love these Jaybird headphones!!!! Bluetooth headphones really are one of the most convenient things for enjoying your music these days. It's great to be free of wires, and to be able to control your play settings from the earpiece. With Jaybirds you can do forward, back, play pause and even do hands-free calling. I've worked out with them once, but I don't recommend them for that. I mostly just use them around the house or at work when i want to enjoy music from my iPhone. The sound isn't BLASTING, but it is actually sufficient for my uses, so I rated the sound quality 5 stars. I know Bluetooth audio isn't as good as 3.5mm hard wired sound, BUT REALLY for wireless music you can't expect much more.. I mean... the sound is being transmitted OVER THE AIR. For what you get, these things are awesome. I love these headphones more for their convenience and comfort than their sound, althought I must say, if comparing to hardwired 3.5mm headphones, these things get a solid 4 star on sound quality. Sorry if my review seems biased... I'm really an avid music lover and bluetooth audio is my new favorite thing. If you can be lucky enough to get a pair of Jaybirds that don't have defect issues, I think you will enjoy these headphones just as much as me. Cheers! And leave a comment here if you want to know anything further.
Sweatproof? Hardly
I purchased these headphones to replace another pair of stereo bluetooth headphones that had finally started to show their wear-and-tear after two years of use.
My main use for the headphones is while running on a treadmill for 90 minutes every morning. Needless to say, a healthy amount of sweat is generated in this process. I felt that a headset with a lifetime warranty against sweat was the ticket.
I have no complaints about the sound or the feel of the headphones. They paired up to my iPod touch and my HTC Touch Pro 2 just fine. I had no issues with phone calls either.
The first pair lasted two weeks before they just stopped working. Sent them back to Amazon. Next pair lasted 20 minutes before the volume controls went all haywire and just started beeping endlessly. Sent them back to Amazon. The third pair lasted 45 minutes before they went crazy like the 2nd pair did.
I'm not trying a fourth pair - the third pair was enough for me. For the record, the return experience at Amazon was hassle-free.
They may be decent headphones if you're not working out with them, but if you are, caveat emptor.
Highly recommend over the head headphones
Okay, are you tired of headphones popping out of your ears and barely missing the toilet?
I wanted over the headphones (which are fairly common) but I wanted bluetooth also so the earphone wires don't keep getting caught and pulling the earphone out of my ears. Finally, I wanted an independent power source for the headphones. I don't want headphones sucking the life out of my iPod battery. Well, I found all three major requirements in these Jaybird headphones: blue tooth, no wires, independent power (the Jaybird has an internal, rechargeable battery). And, these headphones don't cost a fortune, but don't be fooled, the sound is terrific also.
For example, I read a lot of Audible.com books and voice reproduction is super. What about music? I play the guitar and Ukulele and they both have harmonics high enough to sound terrible on cheap headphones. With these Jaybirds, I don't have hissing, spitting, cracks, drop outs which can make string instruments sound lousy. By the way, I've paired the same headphone with my iTouch and iPhone. They all get along just fine. The best way to pair them is to turn bluetooth on first on the iPod or iPhone and then turn the Jaybird on for 6 seconds. Pretty soon, the Jaybird starts frantically blinking red and blue. Then the iDevice will announce the arrival of the SB2. Just touch the SB2 device on your iSomething and you're good to go. I have Bang and Olufsen headphones also which I like very much and the Jaybird compares favorably with the Bangs.
Suits My Needs
I really wanted this for the wireless aspect. I hate having a cord dangling when I'm at the gym. I also dislike earbuds. I knew it would be bulky since it has to accomodate the battery and transmitter/ receiver. I find that it's comfortable enough for the first hour or so. After that, my ears feel a bit squeezed. Even though it has slider adjustments for the vertical measurement, it really is a "one size fits all" for the width between ears. If your head is wider, it might be uncomfortable. It also compresses your hair if you are concerned about appearances. Sound quality is good and volume is good too. But if you are looking for audiophile quality or booming bass, you should probably look elsewhere. I saw another review that indicated poor sound isolation. I can't agree with that. I have had these for a few months now and so far, I am satisfied. I have modified these by inserting a small piece of thick felt under the earpads for extra cushion and sweat protection. Battery life is very good. The manual lists a music time of 8 hours. I would say it lasts at least that long. It comes with a spare set of earpads and a USB charger but no AC charger.
No such thing as a sweat proof headset
This is my third headset after destroying two Motorola S9 HDs. There is nothing remarkable about Jaybird SB2 headset. Quite frankly, my kids teased me because it looks like a headband women often wear. My wife got it for me from J&R Music World (Cheaper than Amazon) simply because SB2 claims to be sweat proof and comes with a two year warranty (Will see about that.) The headphone was dead within six weeks of use. Let us see, why they claim to be sweat proof. They have separated the electronics from the speakers, which is a good thing. To protect the speakers from the sweat, they glued some kind of membrane on top of it. The membranes came off from both sides within a week of coming into contact with sweat. After that it was just a matter of time for the speakers to soak up enough salt and stop working. I took every precaution like wiping them thoroughly after the workout to no avail. The headphones are rugged and sound reasonably good.
I have filed a warranty exchange with Jaybird. Today is the third day and I am still waiting for them to issue an RMA. I am convinced that I will be able to break the exchanged headphones because I really don't think that this product is sweat proof.
Update (Nov 2, 2010)
JayBird gave me a brand new piece as a warranty replacement.
JayBird SB2 Awesome
First off this was my first set of BT headphones and frankly i was a bit skeptical in purchasing BT headphones because of the price points they offer..with that being said ive been testing out the SB2s and they are quite awesome..
i use these everyday hours at a time paired with my Droid X listening to music and taking the occasional calls.
the sound quality on these things are really good, im coming from the Nixon 8mm Wires..theyre earbuds nixon makes..its not high quality sound but for normal use its awesome clean and clear without the cut out like everyone mentions, i can go all over the house upstairs and downstairs while my phone is at one spot not moving without cutting out..Bass is there but not all out..which is fine call quality is great but sometimes the other end claims i seemed to sound muffled..
comfort they feel great wearing them doesnt slide off and i can move around freely, though after wearing it for hours my ears does get a bit uncomfortable but nothing unbareable and like others say it does feel warm after just from 5 mins of being used on the ear area..
lastly price...though its a tad pricey i guess quality makes up for it...its overall a great product at this put the best headphones ive owned so far..it was only 30 bucks more than the nixons i bought and these blow that out the water..
i think these will last and perfect for anyone looking to free themselves from wired connection..its stylish and comes in many colors to suite your needs.
Best Workout Headphones Ever...EVER!!!!
I was skeptical at first when I purchased these headphones having purchased another pair from a local source which were both inadequate and did not fit comfortably. Needless to say those were returned. When I received the Jaybird headphones, they were exactly as described in the literature provided here and at the Jaybird website. The headphones fit over your ear, and if you wear in-ear hearing aids as I do this is a real nice feature. The unit is adjustable so you can get a perfect fit. Since I have a big head I was somewhat concerned that the headphones might not be wide enough since they are preformed plastic but that was not a problem as they fit over my big old head comfortably and don't pinch or make my head feel like I have a vice on it. Very comfortable. The sound quality of the unit is very good, but I have noticed that the unit will cut out periodically when being worn and I don't know if its the unit or my iPhone that is causing the issue. I bought these headphones specifically for using while bike riding and while going to the gym, but have found that I am using when when I'm outside working around the house and sometimes in the house when I'm doing housework, so needless to say they are very handy. I think the thing I love the most about these headphones - NO MORE CORD - yeah.... I don't have any other bluetooth devices but my iPhone so I don't know how these work with other devices but using them with my iPhone has been the greatest thing ever. If you are looking for a great set of headphones these are the ones you should consider. The other great thing about them is you can recharge them on any available USB port on your computer or if you have a power hub like I do you can simply plug them into that and they can recharge without having to have the computer up and running.
These are great headphones, buy them, you won't be disappointed.
